Goodhope Research Institute, Inc. (GRI) is named after Cape of Good Hope in the far south of African continent.

Cape of Good Hope started as one of the major ports to supply ships en-route to and from the East. In seventeenth century, this point was deemed to be impossible to access because of raging and rough sea.
